Maritime injuries give rise to the payment of damages for injuries suffered on or near the water.

Injured fishermen, workers on ships, boats and or diving rigs are covered by the Jones Act and related Federal Admiralty Law. This law compensates the injured seaman for the injury, lost wages, pain and suffering, medical treatment and related damages.
Boat builders, dock workers’ and other workers injured on shore but near the water are covered by the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. This federal act is different than regular workers’ compensation and provides benefits for the injured worker including lost wages, medical treatment, scarring and loss of function and future lost wages.
Recreational boating accident injuries are also covered by the laws of negligence and provide the payment of damages for injuries suffered, medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
